Sex.com Sets Price Record

Hot

At $13 million, it’s the most expensive URL ever.

Sex sells, but Sex.com sells for more. Clover Holdings bought that Web address for $13 million in November, and the Guinness Book of World Records has now declared it the most expensive domain name ever. It’s not the first pricey sale for the URL, which Escom LLC bought for $11.5 million in 2006. But Escom went bankrupt in 2010 and was forced to sell the page in an auction. If you’re hoping for steamy content, though, don’t bother with Sex.com quite yet: The page has some generic “adult” links, but no clear identity of its own.
