SFPD Text: ‘Too Bad None of Them Died’

Officer Jason Lai sent or received dozens of racist and homophobic texts while working at the San Francisco Police Department, according to a CNN report that cites internal documents. “I hate that beaner,” he wrote, “but I think the nig is worse.” Another text reads, “Indian ppl are disgusting.” Documents show Lai also allegedly made a racist joke about President Obama, adding that he hates LeBron James, and at one point lamented that it's "too bad" none of the "hak gwais"—a Cantonese derogatory phrase for black people—involved in a shootout had died. “Fuck that nig,” he allegedly wrote. Lai resigned this month, CNN reports. This is the second texting scandal and investigation in two years at the police department.
