More than 1,000 Muslims gathered at a Chattanooga mosque Friday night to mourn the Marines killed by alleged shooter Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez. The mosque where Abdulazeez worshipped canceled its annual Eid al Fitr dinner, signaling the end of Ramadan, after Thursday’s attack. “We have canceled out of respect and remembrance for our fallen Marines,” said Azhar Sheikh, a founding board member of The Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga. Sheikh called the Abdulazeez family “very upstanding people” who regularly attended the mosque. Two friends of Abdulazeez told the Associated Press that they had spoken to him just days ago and that he seemed excited about a new job. “He was telling me work was going great,” 26-year-old Ahmed Saleen Islam said. “We are so shocked and angry. We wish he would have come to us.”
