Sierra Leone VP Seeks U.S. Asylum

After soldiers surround his house.

Samuel Sam-Sumana, the vice president of Sierra Leone, said on Saturday that he is seeking political asylum at the U.S. embassy after his home was surrounded by soldiers. Two weeks ago, Sam-Sumana announced he was putting himself in quarantine for 21 days “to lead by example” because one of his bodyguards had contracted Ebola. A week later, he was expelled from his party. Now, he is seeking asylum. According to his website, he spent time studying and working in the U.S.
