Skilled-Worker Visas Run Out in a Week

Government will now give them by lottery.

Starting Monday, companies were allowed to file applications for H-1B skilled-worker visas and by Friday, requests outpaced the entire year's supply. The U.S. government has now resorted to offering the visas by lottery after receiving more than 65,000 applications, Congress's mandated limit. Requests for the 20,000 available visas for workers with advanced U.S. degrees also topped supply in just a few days. No more applications for the year will be accepted after October 1.
