North Carolina Smithfield Pork Plant Hit by Coronavirus Outbreak

It comes after a Smithfield plant in South Dakota had to shut down because of massive spread of COVID-19 there.

Earlier this week, a Smithfield Foods pork processing plant in South Dakota closed because hundreds of workers there were infected with the new coronavirus. Now comes word of an outbreak at a Smithfield facility in Tar Heel, North Carolina. WECT reports that the Bladen County Health Department did not disclose how many of the plant employees have COVID-19. “The health and well-being of the employees is our first priority,” agency director Dr. Teresa Duncan said.
