This should help you kick your Diet Coke addiction for at least a few hours. A new study published in General Dentistry shows that drinking enough soda could have the same effect on your teeth that methamphetamine or crack cocaine does. Temple University professor and researcher Mohamed Bassiouny spent two decades examining patients in dental clinics and found “almost identical features” in drug addicts and heavy soda drinkers. According to the study, citric acid, which is used to preserve soda’s flavor and shelf life, is behind the erosion of a tooth’s enamel and eventually its core. The American Beverage Association has denied that soda causes tooth decay.
