Solar Impulse Grounded Until 2016

The Solar Impulse 2 will have to stay on the ground until 2016 after its batteries heated up faster than anticipated during its unprecedented solar-powered flight around the world. The plane suffered “irreversible damage,” according to its crew and will remain in Hawaii for repairs. The plane set out from Abu Dhabi in March, and has already set the record for longest solo flight—for its five-day solo flight from Japan to Hawaii.
