"We have the whole package here," Sen. Harry Reid said, adding that Sotomayor's life story is "compelling." Sotomayor has been caught in a whirlwind of stereotyping and accusations of racism since her nomination for the Supreme Court, and Senator Patrick Leahy said the venom surrounding the process "demands that she has a hearing earlier than later." Meanwhile, Politico reports that nearly 150 leading conservatives have sent a letter to Republican senators demanding they fight hard against her confirmation.
