The fish smoothies are making things better. Scientists are scratching their heads after a sudden spike in the number of sick sea lions along Southern California's shore. By this time of the year there's usually a dozen cases of dehydrated and malnourished sea lions--this year there's been 200 so far. Since there isn't an outbreak of disease in the sea lions, experts suspect food shortage, climate change, or an increase in birth as the reason they're turning up on the beach. The pups do recover with treatment of a liquid diet, fish smoothies, and herring (when they're ready)
