Aaron Ybarra, the 26-year-old suspect in the Seattle Pacific University shootings that left one dead on Thursday, called 911 in a rage in 2010, saying that he “wanted to hurt himself and others,” according to a police report. In 2012, officers found Ybarra lying in the middle of a street, saying that he wanted a SWAT team to get him and “make him famous.” He was not arrested in either incident, but he was arrested in July of that year for driving under the influence of alcohol. According to a law enforcement source, Ybarra had a “fascination with mass shootings,” including an interest in the 1999 Columbine High School shootings. There’s no clear reason for why Ybarra chose Seattle Pacific University for his own mass shooting plan—he was not a student there.
