Spy Swap Could Happen Today

Let's Trade

Meeting may happen in England.

The anticipated U.S.-Russia spy swap meet could happen Thursday in England. A lawyer for the Russian military researcher Igor Sutyagin, who was convicted of spying by Russia in 2004, may be taken to England for a trade with the U.S., Sutyagin's lawyer says. According to the lawyer, Sutyagin would be exchanged for 11 prisoners recently accused of spying on the U.S. for Russia. Lawyers for two of those accused said Russian officials have reached out to them to try negotiate an end to the case. In order to secure his release, Sutyagin had to admit guilt even though he has maintained that he did not spy for the U.S. up to this point.
