Stanford Investigating Cheating Claims

BAD STUDENTS

More cheating reported than usual.

The Associated Press reports that officials at Stanford University are investigating a “unusually high” number of students suspected of cheating during the winter quarter. University Provost John Etchemendy sent a letter to faculty about the “troubling allegations.” He emphasized that all students agree to abide by an honor code, but “with the ease of technology and widespread sharing that is now part of a collaborative culture, students need to recognize and be reminded that it is dishonest to appropriate the work of others.” In the 2013-2014 academic year alone, 83 students violated the honor code, according to a university spokesperson.
