State Rep. Questions Romney’s Faith

Today Alma Adams, a Democratic North Carolina state representative and leader of the Legislative Black Caucus, told CNN, “From what I understand about the Mormon faith you can have multiple wives. That’s sort of a contradiction. There are questions about who Romney is and what he believes in terms of that particular issue.” She suggested that conservative voters, who don’t even want one man to be allowed to marry one other man or one woman to be allowed to marry one other woman, would disapprove of electing a president whose religion allows polygamy. This afternoon, she apologized for saying that. Polygamy was outlawed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1890.
