CCTV footage on China Network Television
The Chinese government may have been outed by its own state television. A recent broadcast revealed footage of what two Chinese military experts say is a demonstration of software designed to target and attack the U.S. The 10-second segment was part of a larger report on cybersecurity and goes up against China's repeated denial that it engages in cyberwarfare. The segment may trouble the government, particularly after the Pentagon released a new cyberstrategy in July that outlined the potential for a traditional military response to cyberattacks on the U.S. The footage aired last month but went fairly unnoticed until it was featured in a report. China's Foreign and Defense Ministries and China Central Television Channel 7 did not respond to requests for comment.
