Coming off two of the toughest weeks of his tenure at the helm of the Republican National Committee, Chairman Michael Steele told GOP activists gathered in New Orleans Saturday that he knows he has fouled some things up. "I'm the first here to admit that I've made mistakes, and it's been incumbent on me to take responsibility to shoulder that burden, make the necessary changes and move on," Steele said, bringing the audience at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference to its feet. Steele’s been under fire for his bombastic leadership style and has taken heat for a series of seemingly inappropriate purchases by the RNC. Still, it is unlikely Steele will be fired. Also making news at the GOP confab in New Orleans this weekend is Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, who was the top choice of conference attendees for their presidential nomination in 2012.
