On the fence about applying for law school? Stanley Fish offers some food for thoughts in The New York Times Opinionar blog. The knock on law school lately has been that it’s impractical; too many students shell out tens of thousands of dollars to learn a vocation they will never actually practice. But Fish says students should look at law school like they do any other humanities-focused graduate degree. “Law is more than an aggregation of discrete tactics and procedures ... it is academic knowledge in the best sense, knowledge that becomes yours by pondering abstract, hypothetical questions.”
