Students Getting in Without the SAT

A quarter of all U.S. colleges now test-optional.

This is making those of us who were forced to sit through hours of torturous standardized testing jealous. More than a quarter of all American colleges and universities are no longer requiring standardized test scores for admission, according to Fairtest.org, a standardized-testing watchdog group. That means more and more students are skipping out on the two acronyms a high-school student fears most: SAT and ACT. But before teenagers take the day off, it should be noted that some test-optional schools still require some form of testing—say, three SAT Subject Tests in lieu of the regular SAT.
