According to a new study published by Nature, planet Earth is at the warmest temperature it’s been in about 120,000 years, seemingly destined to match the hot temperature mark from more than 2 million years ago. For the study, which was conducted by a Stanford University researcher who is now a climate policy official at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a continuous temperature record was reconstructed using 5,000-year averages going back several million years. The data came from 61 different sea-surface temperature proxies across the planet.
