A European study published Wednesday in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has found that there is no link between cellular-phone usage and brain tumors in children and adolescents. The study focused on 1,000 participants, mainly children and adolescents, who are particularly sensitive to phone emissions due to their developing nervous systems. The study found that although children as young as 9 or 10 are using cellphones, a “large and immediate risk of cellphones causing brain tumors in children can be excluded.” The study has limitations, especially since the subjects had only been using their phones for an average of four years and the time the children actually spent talking on the phone was limited. A 13-country study of adults published last year had similar findings.
