Merian Yehya Ibrahim, the Sudanese Christian woman sentenced to die for refusing to give up her faith, has been detained again by authorities, this time for trying to leave the country. Ibrahim had been released, however she was stopped along with her American husband and two children at an airport in Khartoum on Tuesday. She is accused of traveling with falsified documents as well as giving false information, her lawyers say. She is being held without bail, as is her husband. However, according to the U.S. State Department, “They have not been arrested. The government has assured us of their safety.” According to the Sudan National Intelligence and Security Services, her attempt to use South Sudanese travel documents and head to the U.S. “was considered illegal by the Sudanese authorities, who have summed both the U.S. and South Sudanese ambassadors.”
