During an interview on ABC’s This Week, White House economic adviser Larry Summers said the American economy should continue to see more job creation, but the government will still be responsible for taking proactive steps to help along the recovery process. Last month, payrolls increased by 162,000—the most since March three years ago. Although private payrolls rose by 123,000 and government agency employee rosters added 39,000 workers, figures show average earnings per hour dropped while the number of part-timers unable to find full-time work increased. While optimistic, White House staff are aware of the work ahead. “Now the process of job creation has started, we expect it will accelerate,” said Summers. However, “we are in no position to rest or to be complacent.”
