The moment the owner of a Maryland seafood distributor spotted this lobster, he knew it wasn't going to end up in a steam pot. The crustacean's shell was mottled orange and black, meaning it’s an exceedingly rare calico lobster—a one-in-30-million find. “We knew she was special we didn’t even know why,” Rita Montoya, a spokeswoman for Ocean City Seafood, told the Baltimore Sun. The Silver Spring-based company named the specimen Eve and put it in a special tank. The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta may adopt Eve for public display. The University of Maine’s Lobster Institute says that while Eve is a very unusual find, calico lobsters are more common than albinos, which are three times as rare.
