UH OH

Sustained winds of 175 mph.

Super Typhoon Haiyan, with top sustained winds of 175 mph making it the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane, is headed to the vulnerable islands of the Philippines. The storm is heading northwest right for the islands and has a landfall estimate of early Friday local time, which is Thursday night in the U.S. According to one meteorologist, Haiyan is the biggest storm of the year so far. At least 30 people have already died from typhoons this year in the Philippines, and the country is still getting over an earthquake that killed 150. The capital city, Manila, is in the path of the storm and has a population of 12 million people.
