The Supreme Court announced Friday that it will hear oral arguments concerning a legal challenge against the Trump administration’s move to include a citizenship question in the 2020 census, Reuters reports. The court will reportedly hear arguments on Feb. 19 concerning the “scope of evidence” U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in New York can consider while presiding over the case. Eighteen states, 15 cities, and civil-rights groups are asking Furman to remove the citizenship question from the census, claiming it will “frighten immigrants” and prevent them from completing the census, which could lead to an undercount. The challengers also claim the undercount could lead to potential political underrepresentation in the House. The trial before Furman started on Nov. 5 and has scheduled closing arguments for Nov. 27.
