Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting of California Cop

Authorities have arrested a suspect in the Wednesday shooting death of California cop Ronil Singh, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said in a Friday press conference. The Modesto Bee reports that Gustavo Perez Arriaga was taken into custody Friday morning, joining two alleged accomplices—his brother, Adrian Virgen, and co-worker, Erik Razo Quiroz—who were arrested for accessory. The Bee reports that Arriaga had worked as a farm laborer for years after crossing the border illegally, and allegedly shot and killed Singh after he was pulled over early Wednesday morning for appearing to drive under the influence. He was reportedly attempting to flee to Mexico at the time of his arrest, said Sheriff Adam Christianson.

On Thursday, the shooting caught the attention of President Trump, who used Singh’s death to justify building the wall. “There is right now a full scale manhunt going on in California for an illegal immigrant accused of shooting and killing a police officer during a traffic stop,” Trump wrote. “Time to get tough on Border Security. Build the Wall!” Arriaga is now en route to Stanislaus County, wearing Singh’s handcuffs.
