The Syrian government is continuing its harsh response to protests. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights named 21 people it says were arrested by Syrian security, while the National Organization for Human Rights named an additional 24. On Friday, thousands took to the streets as security forces fired tear gas and bullets into the crowd, killing at least three, according to witnesses. The deaths bring the number of people killed to more than 60 since the protests began two weeks ago, prompted by the arrest of a dozen schoolchildren for scrawling graffiti. Both the U.S. and the U.N. condemned the latest violence.
