Syria has accused Israel of firing several surface-to-surface missiles at a military base near Damascus on Saturday, according to the country’s state-run media. SANA, the state news agency, said the strike on a military area near the southern Damascus suburb of Kiswah caused “material losses” but no casualties. No further details were given on the extent of the damage. Syria’s air defenses reportedly shot down two of the Israeli missiles. The strike, which came amid escalating violence between government forces and rebels in the Damascus suburbs, is thought to have targeted an arms depot. Israel has carried out several airstrikes targeting suspected arms shipments to Hezbollah since the conflict began, though most of them have hit near Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
