Syrian Opposition Unites Against Assad

As the death toll in Syria continues to mount, the Syria opposition groups have officially come together against President Bashar al-Assad. The group is calling on the international community to protect the people of Syria—but will reject any intervention that “compromises Syria’s sovereignty.” The Muslim Brotherhood, the Damascus Declaration, and other smaller groups have also joined the cause. While the announcement is undoubtedly a step in the right direction, there is no clear outline of what is to happen, and the death toll in the nation is estimated to be 2,700 citizens in the past six months.
