A Tennessee man was charged in federal court on Friday with attempting to assassinate Hawaii lawmakers Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Sen. Mazie Hirono. According to court documents, Kaehiokahouna Stewart, 36, purchased a plane ticket to Hawaii with the intent to kill the members of Congress. Additionally, Stewart posted threatening videos on Instagram targeting the pair, and in an email sent last month he said he wanted to fly to Hawaii “with the intent to shoot people at the Princess Jonah Federal Building.” Police were called to Hirono’s Washington, D.C., office when Stewart visited it last year. He is due in court on September 30.
