Watch out, Herman Cain, there's a new contender for "GOP candidate with the best name." Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter announced his bid for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination on Saturday at an Independence Day rock festival outside Detroit. “What we need in Washington is someone who knows the future is not big government—it is self government,” he told the crowd as he played with his band. McCotter, a five-term congressman from the Detroit suburbs, is a supporter of the car industry and proponent of the auto bailout, though he has since made overtures to the Tea Party with calls for a fundamental restructuring of government.
