Thailand's state tobacco company on Saturday said it would create a cheaper brand of cigarettes to offset the higher price caused by newly imposed taxes. "We are concerned that smokers will choose other alternatives that will severely harm their bodies, such as low-quality hand-rolling tobacco," said Daonoi Suttiniphapunt, director of Thailand Tobacco Monopoly. The new line of cigarettes will be only slightly smaller in diameter. Anti-smoking activists denounced the plan.
