After six months of sometimes deadly protests, a Thai court ruled Wednesday that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was guilty of violating the constitution, and must step down. The court declared that she had abused her government position by removing Thailand's national security council chief so that a relative could “gain a new position.” Yingluck’s brother, former Premier Thaksin Shinawatra, lives in exile after being removed from office by the military in 2006. The court did rule, however, that members of Yingluck’s cabinet who were not involved can remain in place, meaning her government could survive.
