In Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, thousands gathered to protest on Sunday what many see as a coup by the military in the landlocked African nation. On Friday, after President Blaise Compaore resigned after 27 years in office due to protests, the army dissolved the legislature, suspended the constitution and on Saturday the Presidential Guard commander Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida was named transitional leader. The UN representative to the country has warned that sanctions are a possibility if Zida does not allow for a return to civilian rule.
