Three Arrested in Mumbai Journalist Gang Rape

A female photojournalist on assignment in Mumbai was raped by five men on Thursday night. The woman, in her 20s, had been photographing an abandoned textile mill when, according to Police Commissioner Satya Pal Singh, "Five men who were inside the derelict textile mill first accused the woman's companion of being wanted for a murder, tied him up with a belt, then took the woman aside and took turns raping her." The news of her attack brings increased attention to India and the country's record of attacks on women, in particular, the 2012 gang rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist on a Delhi bus that resulted in her death. Police have released sketches of five suspects in this most recent crime, of whom three have now been arrested. They are set to appear in court on Saturday.
