Three Kurdish Women Killed in Paris

Three Kurdish women were found shot to death in Paris early Thursday morning. Among the dead, sources said, was a founding member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), a militant group fighting for Kurdish autonomy, and another victim was reported to be the Paris representative of the Brussels-based Kurdistan National Congress. The bodies were found at the Information Center of Kurdistan in the city center, and police have launched a murder investigation. Police and other sources said the women were likely killed overnight—and the slayings are reportedly politically motivated. The PKK, designated a terrorist group by the U.S., Turkey, and the European Union, has been engaged in a 28-year war for independence from Turkey—and the Turkish government recently acknowledged holding talks with the organization’s jailed leader.
