Chris Christie," wrote publisher Joseph W. McQuaid. "As a U.S. attorney and then a big-state governor, he is the one candidate who has the range and type of experience the nation desperately needs." In 2012, the newspaper endorsed Newt Gingrich for president. And in 2008, their pick was John McCain.
