Thirteen years of Labour rule came to a close in Britain on Tuesday as the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats joined to form the first coalition government the country has seen since 1945. Will the coalition between the two parties hold? The Times of London Peter Riddell reports “quite a bit of rumbling among the Tories” that the deal was “unnecessary insurance” and the party would have been better forming a minority government instead. The Guardian writes, “If the deal works, it will change the shape of the Conservative party–and if it fails, the Lib Dems could find themselves rubbed out as a progressive force.”
