Authorities believe they have identified the cause of a train crash south of Paris that took six lives on Friday. After the transport ministry ruled out human error, the state rail company acknowledged that the crash was due to a fault in the train tracks. A metal bar connecting two rails had come loose near the Brétigny-sur-Orge station where the train was derailed, injuring thirty passengers, eight of them seriously. Despite the consequences of the crash, the train driver has been praised for averting a worse accident. Investigations are expected to focus on how the bar first came loose.
