Data confirms that the pilot of a TransAsia plane that crashed in Taipei this spring shut down the plane’s last working engine after the other lost power, according to Taiwan’s aviation regulator. In a cockpit recording, the pilot is heard saying, “Wow, pulled back the wrong side throttle.” The Daily Beast’s Clive Irving wrote at the time of the crash that this was “likely,” though pilots are specifically trained to avoid it. Forty-three people were killed in the crash, including the pilot and co-pilot.
