Top White House economic adviser contradicted President Donald Trump’s message on coal, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that “coal doesn’t even make that much sense anymore as a feedstock.” Cohn also touted renewable energy including solar and wind. On the campaign trail, Trump often said he would support coal miners and scale back regulations that hurt the industry, slamming Democrats’ “war on coal.” The Trump administration is set to soon decide on whether to remain in the Paris climate accord, which was agreed to under the Obama administration. As a candidate, Trump indicated he would pull the U.S. out of it.
