Trump: Maybe ‘Soften’ Immigration Laws

During a taped town-hall-style meeting with Fox News host Sean Hannity in Texas, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said he is open to “softening” laws dealing with people who are in the United States illegally, a marked departure from the hardline stance on immigration that has defined his entire campaign. “There certainly can be a softening because we’re not looking to hurt people,” Trump said. “We want people—we have some great people in this country.” He added: “We are going to follow the laws of this country.” The Trump campaign recently canceled an upcoming immigration speech in order to reportedly think through the issue more.
