Scott Lloyd, the director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, considered using a “controversial, scientifically unproven method” in an attempt to reverse a detainee’s abortion, according to records obtained by VICE News. Tasked to manage underage immigrants who enter the country illegally, Lloyd explicitly mentioned using progesterone to stop the chemical abortion of a pregnant teen that was already underway. When asked why the ORR considered reversing the abortion by an attorney from ACLU’s Reproductive Freedom Project, Lloyd said, “I don’t know, I mean except to save the life of the baby.” Since October, four teens have claimed the ORR has blocked access to abortions while they were in custody.
