Donald Trump said Russia shouldn’t be held accountable for last year’s downing of a commercial airliner over Ukraine despite a new report that concluded the plane was shot out of the sky by a Russian-made rocket and warhead. Speaking to MSNBC on Wednesday, Trump was asked what he would do as president to hold Russia accountable for the attack, after a report from Dutch investigators blamed pro-Russian separatists for the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. “They say it wasn’t them,” Trump said of Russia. “It may have been their weapon, but they didn’t use it, they didn’t fire it. They even said the other side fired it to blame them.” The Republican presidential candidate later walked back his statement and said it was “probably” Russia and pro-Russian fighters, but that the U.S. needed to focus on its own issues.
