President Donald Trump returned to the greatest hits of the 2016 presidential campaign during a rambling, aggressive CPAC speech on Friday. After claiming other countries didn't send "their best people" to the U.S., he described violent immigrants and then announced that he thought the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) act was likely dead. “House Democrats have totally abandoned DACA... The democrats are being totally unresponsive, they don't want to do anything about DACA. It’s very possible DACA won’t happen,” the president said. “So you better elect Republicans.” He also spoke out against chain migration during his speech at the 2018 Conservative Political Action Conference. He said, “I want people coming into this country based on merit," and that current migrants are not the “their best people” but are “horrendous.” Trump also recited almost the entirety of the lyrics of Al Wilson’s “The Snake” to serve as a metaphor to immigration policy and chain migration. The song describes how a woman took in a frozen snake, nursed it back to health, and then was bitten by the snake.
