In the Tunisian capital of Tunis, police fired tear gas to try to disperse hundreds of demonstrators outside the interior ministry on Saturday, just one day after police were forced to clear huge crowds from the streets. The Tunisian protesters are demanding the resignation of the interim prime minister, and on Friday, police also fired tear gas and warning shots to quell the crowd. Unlike Libya, the Tunisian protests have been relatively devoid of violence. The protesters are angry that several prominent members of ousted President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali remain in the cabinet of Mohammed Ghannouchi’s interim government. Ghannouchi has promised the people of Tunisia elections by mid-July.
