Turkey’s government said its warplanes bombed ISIS targets in Syria on Friday, just a day after clashes broke out between the two sides near the border. Three F-16s reportedly took off early Friday morning and used “smart” bombs to strike three ISIS targets, according to a statement from Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu’s office. The news comes as Turkey announced U.S. warplanes would be allowed to facilitate airstrikes against ISIS at an air base near the Syrian border in the wake of Thursday’s clashes. ISIS militants shot and killed a Turkish soldier and wounded five others at a Turkish outpost. Also Friday, Turkish police launched raids to arrest suspected ISIS militants in more than 100 locations throughout Istanbul.
