After a 7.2-magnitude quake leveled almost 1,000 buildings in the city of Ercis on Sunday, Turkish rescue workers are frantically searching for survivors in the rubble. So far on Monday, five people were found alive, including one man who called rescue workers from his cellphone while trapped. Meanwhile, about 200 aftershocks shook the region. At least 265 people are dead, the country’s interior minister said, and another 1,140 are injured. Dozens of countries, including nearby Israel, have offered aid, but Turkey has so far declined any assistance.
