Turkey’s foreign minister visited the Libya rebels who are attempting to oust embattled leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi, promising an additional $200 million in aid. Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited rebel-stronghold Benghazi on Sunday and he is scheduled to meet with rebel leader Mustafa Abdel-Jalil later in the day. France, Italy and Qatar have also recognized the rebel government, but Turkey represents a strong strategic alley for the rebels, given Turkey’s longtime ties with Gaddafi and strong trading interest with Libya.
