Uber Forced to Stop Operating in Nevada

A district court judge in Washoe County, Nevada, put a halt to Uber operations in the state, citing public-safety issues raised by state regulators. Uber, which began operations in Nevada on Oct. 24, argues that it should not be subjected to the same regulations as taxis and other transportation services, but the Nevada Taxicab Authority and the Nevada Transportation Authority have labeled Uber drivers as illegal and unlicensed carriers. The district judge, Scott Freeman, asked the company’s lawyers, “Why did Uber choose to operate first without regulation?… Why didn’t you try to change the law first, then operate?”
